Project OptiWaMag has been going on for 20 months

The project OptiWaMag started in August 2019, already 20 months ago, and it seeks innovation in urban waste management policies.

Six European partners from Portugal, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Hungary and Italy have created a strong interregional and interinstitutional collaboration to exchange experiences, share good practices, in a perspective of co-learning and knowledge transfer, as indicated in the principles of the Interreg Europe funding program.

During the first 12 months of the project, partners focused on the analysis of the strengths and possible areas of intervention of their respective waste management tools. Afterwards the partners entered the decisive phase of the project: they begun to lay the foundations of their regional action plans.

The next steps of the project will focus on the development of an action plan with concrete proposals to improve the waste management systems and to enhance strategic regulations and policy documents.

To reach this goal the 5th Interregional partners meeting will be held online on April 7-8th and will be hosted by one of the project’s partners – Region of Thessaly. During the meeting the partners will discuss the process of the project, how is it going so far, achievements, problems, solutions and also good practices. One session will be open to external stakeholders as well, where partners from Region of Thessaly and local regional external stakeholders will present about the waste management in their region.
